| The people make their way down the steep path and out the sacred village gate. Akha villages have these gates, one in the direction of the rising sun and another towards the setting sun, in order to keep spirits out of the village. It is symbolic that the body of the deceased passes out of the human realm of the village and into the world of the spirits during the procession. |
