Sun festival. Hi no Matsuri.

You exit the train station to be greeted by burning pots lined up for a kilometer, forming a trail to the four meter tall torches and other temporary, flammable displays. The people, faces lit in orange, watch intently as firebugs indulge themselves in their annual ritual of sanctioned pyromania.

Turn out your lights, click on a thumbnail, and experience vicariously the Hi no Matsuri.
