Chiang Mai is a modest city, tiny in comparison to the megacities of Asia like Bangkok, Tokyo and Mumbai. Despite its size however, it is a crossroads for travellers, a center of industry and a delightfully international city, as many tourists have found. Its downtown is a square of land surrounded by an historical moat and around this area has emerged a furious and sometimes mad life for locals, long-timers and tourists alike. On the east side of the city, on the inside of the moat, you will find Moonmuang Road--home to seemingly thousands of people, businesses and motorcycles vying for position and sidewalk space. It is also the street on which I live and a prime locale for taking photographs.
This gallery is a sample of photos I took over the course of about three months, a self-assignment to take a brief look at a section of the city that is sometimes turbulent but always with small pockets of serenity. I call it... |
