Tough Guys
Silhouetted in the flames of the dying torches, I asked these men if I could take their photo. Of course, they were all reluctant and very shy, but three of them stood their ground. The fourth, the one on the far left, at first dodged out of the way, but then got a burst of courage as I was about the snap the pic. I could not see their faces in the darkness as I took their photo. But somehow, I knew they would give me appropriately demure scowls, despite my saying "hei, chee-zoo" ("Say cheese" in Japanese). See the next photo: fried pancakes.
