While I never spotted a McDonalds or other Western burger joint, China does have its own version of fast food. As populations shift and people have less of a familial support structure, they turn increasingly toward this kind of fast and inexpensive food.
In these plastic containers are cheap rice and vegetable concoctions which are not very nutritious--and the plastic containers are of course non-biodegradable. The pace in this city, while not quite on a par with large cities in the West, requires this sort of fast food and these restaurateurs probably have a bright future in serving it up. |
