When all else fails, heavier armament always helps. The famous Yonezawa fusileers, mainstays at many other events, bring out the guns and let loose with a volley.

You can see here that the smoke billows forth from these mini-cannons, but I don't think you can imagine the bellow that they make. Even in the old days, I doubt that the projectiles wrought as much damage as did the noise inspire fear in the enemy. These photos were taken in 1997, and for this most recent season of the battle I was on the other side of the river, perhaps 50 meters from these guns, and I still could not help but duck when they went off.
