This woman is not grimacing at me as much as she is at existence in general. In fact, her eyes are closed and she never even saw me. This is an old quarter of the city, on Shun Chen Street, where the buildings are a relatively ancient 100 years old. When one thinks of open air markets in Asia this is the kind of street life one envisions. Though Kunming is getting newer and newer by the day, there are still pockets where you can find the stereotypically gritty scene.
